The Culturally Specific Special Issue Resource Center (NRC)

The Culturally Specific Special Issue Resource Center (NRC) is a National and Special Issue Resource Center supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Family Violence Prevention Services Program. The NRC is dedicated to addressing family, domestic, and dating violence in the Black community through culturally specific approaches that empower survivors, strengthen organizations, and drive systemic change.

Key Highlights of the Project:

Offers:

Public Awareness, Outreach, and Engagement

The NRC raises awareness about domestic, dating, and community violence in the Black community through culturally relevant campaigns and outreach efforts. By engaging with survivors, families, and communities, the NRC fosters conversations that break stigma, promote healing, and empower individuals to access resources and support.

Training and Technical Assistance (TTA)

The NRC provides comprehensive training and technical assistance to domestic violence programs, coalitions, and service providers. These efforts strengthen the capacity of organizations to deliver culturally specific services, address systemic barriers, and meet the unique needs of Black survivors and their families.

Training and Technical Response

The NRC offers responsive, on-demand support to practitioners and organizations addressing violence in Black communities. This includes tailored solutions, resources, and consultations to help programs navigate challenges, implement best practices, and enhance their impact.

National Resource Center on Domestic Violence NRCDV Collaboration

As part of the Domestic Violence Resource Network (NRCDV), the NRC collaborates with national and culturally specific resource centers to share knowledge, align strategies, and amplify efforts to prevent violence. This partnership ensures a unified approach to addressing domestic violence across diverse communities.

Policy Development and System Engagement

The NRC advocates for systemic change by working with policymakers, government agencies, and community leaders to develop equitable policies and practices. By addressing structural inequities and prioritizing culturally specific solutions, the NRC helps shape systems that better serve Black survivors and communities.

Research and Evaluation

The NRC conducts research that explores the intersections of race, class, and gender, focusing on survivor experiences, offender accountability, and service quality. By evaluating programs and interventions, the NRC develops evidence-based strategies and tools that advance violence prevention and improve outcomes for Black women and their families.
